Torrential rainstorms brought flooding, landslides and hail to central and southern part of Gansu Province on 10 May 2012.  World Vision deployed an assessment team to Min County, one of the hard-hit areas in Gansu during May 13-16 and immediately allocated 500 pieces of quilts from Xi'an storehouse to meet the needs of the flood-affected people.

“I was very excited to witness the construction of our new school.  I am grateful to all the people who have offered help.  They helped us rebuild the school, encouraging me to study well.”  Li Xinglong, who was only 11 in year 2008 when the Wenchuan quake rocked his home township in Guangyuan City of Sichuan Province.  His school was ruined by the quake and he thought he would study in prefabricated classroom ever after.  Now as he shared his experience in the new school constructed by World Vision, he is really thankful.

The 10-year-old Li Wenhua, nicknamed Xiaohua, is a World Vision's sponsored child.  She lives with her parents, younger brothers and sisters in a mountainous village of Luchun County.  Xiaohua is in primary three this year.  In the final examination last time, she was the third best student in class.  Apart from excellent academic performance, she is also a cheerful girl who loves singing very much.  One of her after-class activities is to play the game of "throwing handkerchief" with her peers, and the playground is by then filled with their laughter.
